Knife Sharpening Workshop with Jhun of Kuya Sharpens

Date and Time: Sunday, July 12, 4 to 6 PM
Location: Home Ec + Best Bud

Join us for a hands-on knife sharpening workshop led by Jhun of Kuya Sharpens. Whether your favorite kitchen knife has become dull over time or you've always wanted to learn how sharpening works, this workshop will cover the fundamentals of sharpening and maintaining your knives using Japanese whetstones.

Jhun will guide participants through the sharpening process step by step, with plenty of time for practice and questions along the way. After sharpening, he'll lead a knife skills session so participants can put their newly sharpened edge to work.

Participants are encouraged to bring a kitchen knife from home to sharpen during class.

Each participant will leave with a whetstone and sharpening station setup to continue practicing at home.

About Jhun

Jhun is a San Diego native, dad of three, and the knife sharpener behind Kuya Sharpens. By day he works as a software engineer, and by night he sharpens knives by hand on Japanese whetstones for professional chefs and home cooks throughout San Diego. He loves helping people get more out of the knives they use every day and sharing the skills needed to keep them performing their best.

The Fine Print

  • All materials are provided. Participants should bring a kitchen knife from home to sharpen during the workshop.
  • Tickets are final sale and non-refundable. If you cannot attend, feel free to send a friend in your place.
  • While we do not anticipate a high risk of injury and will provide safety guidance during instruction, Home Ec and the workshop instructor are not liable for any injuries that may occur during the class.
  • This workshop is for ages 18+.
